DUBUQUE, Iowa—Iowa Conference opponent Loras took both games of the doubleheader, 5-2 and 7-4, Tuesday.
In the first game, the Knights took the 1-0 lead in the first as freshman Katie Wyman (Springville) drove in classmate Katie Canney (Adel).
This remained the score until the fourth inning until the Duhawks tallied four runs to take the 4-1 lead.
The Orange and Black scored their final run of the first meeting in the sixth as freshman Tori Herzberg (San Tan Valley, Ariz.) drove in Wyman on her single to rightfield.
Loras answered with a run of its own in the bottom of the frame to take the 5-2 win.
Canney tied her career high with three hits and was the team's leading hitter as she finished 3-4.
In the nightcap, Wartburg again took the early lead as it scored a run in the second as it capitalized on a Duhawk fielding error.
Loras plated two in the bottom of the frame to take the 2-1 lead and five in the third to extend its margin.
The Knights compiled a rally in the seventh as they scored three runs on three hits including a two-run double by senior Lynn Heitkamp (Galena, Ill.).
Heitkamp was the team’s leading hitter (2-4) and junior Stacey Kayser (Jesup) went 2-4.
The Orange and Black return to the field Saturday when they host Central in a doubleheader at Lynes Field at 2 p.m. in the Strike Out Cancer event.
