WAVERLY, Iowa—Sixth-ranked Central College (25-5 overall, 6-2 IIAC) swept Wartburg (6-28, 0-10) in the Iowa Conference doubleheader Saturday.
The Dutch took the first game 11-2 in five innings and the second meeting, 14-0 in five innings.
Central jumped on the board with five runs in the first inning, added one in the third and five in the fourth to take the 11-0 lead.
The Knights compiled a two-out, two-run rally in the bottom of the fifth as senior Emily Braem (Glen Ellyn, Ill.) put the team on the board as she scored on a Dutch throwing error. Classmate Lynn Heitkamp (Galena, Ill.) drove in freshman Tori Herzberg (San Tan Valley, Ariz.) on her RBI single to centerfield.
Heitkamp led the team at the plate in the first game as she went 2-3.
The same story rang true in the second game as Central started with a 7-0 lead after its first at-bats.
The Dutch tallied one run in the second and three in the third to extend their lead to 11-0.
Junior Ashley Bienemann (Alburnett) broke up the no-hitter in the bottom of the frame on her single down the left field line.
In the fourth, the Orange and Black had runners on the corners with one out but were unable to drive in anyone across the plate and Central scored its final three runs in the fifth.
Wartburg returns to the field next Saturday when it hosts Buena Vista in a doubleheader at 2 p.m.
