WAVERLY, Iowa—In its home opener, the Wartburg softball team (6-24 overall, 0-4 IIAC) was swept by Iowa Conference opponent, Cornell (14-8, 2-0), 5-1 and 12-0 Friday.
The first game was scoreless until freshman Katie Canney (Adel) scored for the Knights to take the 1-0 lead.
This remained the score until the top of the sixth when the Rams scored four runs and added one more in the seventh to take the first game.
Senior Emily Braem (Glen Elynn, Ill.) led the Orange and Black at the plate as she finished 2-2.
In the final game, it was Cornell that got on the board first as it tallied a run in the first inning and four in both the second and third innings.
The Rams crossed the plate three times in the fourth to take the 12-0 lead.
Alex Becker broke up the no-hitter with her double in the fourth for Wartburg.
The Knights had bases loaded in the fifth but were unable to capitalize as a swinging strikeout gave Cornell the sweep.
The Orange and Black return to the field Tuesday on the road against Loras in a doubleheader at 3 p.m.
