WAVERLY, Iowa-- The Wartburg women's tennis team opened its season with a 9-0 victory over Monmouth College Saturday.
In doubles play, seniors Jennifer Dallenbach (Decorah) and Michelle McKenzie (Waverly) combined for the 8-1 win at the top spot.
At No. 2 doubles, senior Claire Evans (Alden) and freshman Melissa Davis also won 8-1 and freshman Katherine Ross (Littleton, Colo.) and senior Britta Jensen (Richfield, Minn.) won 8-0 at No. doubles.
In singles play, Dallenbach was victorious 6-0 and 6-1 at the top spot.
Ross won 1-0 at No. 2, Davis won 6-1, 6-0 at No. 3 and Evans won her match 6-0, 6-1.
McKenzie won at No. 5 singles 6-0, 6-0 and Jensen won 6-0, 6-1 at the sixth-spot.
The Knights return to the court next Saturday when they host UW-River Falls and Bethany Lutheran in a triangular.
