WAVERLY, Iowa-- Senior Monica Noti (Carol Stream, Ill.) became the Wartburg women's soccer program's all-time career leader in goalkeeper wins Saturday in the Knights' 5-1 win over Iowa Conference opponent, the University of Dubuque.
Noti now has 35 career wins to surpass Christina Ernst on the all-time leader list.
"Monica has been a voice and a leader for our somewhat new defense," said head coach Tiffany Pins. (The team lost Mackenzie Moore to graduation and moved Cathy Reiter to forward this season.)
"She has taken responsibility in communicating more with the team, especially the defense."
Pins also coaches Ernst during her time as an assistant coach for the program.
"Both individuals are tremendous goalkeepers and great assets," Pins stated. "Boty were also part of teams that have had success in the NCAA Tournament."
Junior Rachel Torry (Urbandale) netted her second goal of the season off a corner kick to give the Orange and Black the early 1-0 lead at 14:58.
Senior Cathy Reiter (Buckingham) extended her points streak to seven straight games with her goal at 16:58. Classmate Kaylee Benning (Waverly) was credited with the assist.
Freshman Brittany Frush (LaPorte City) scored her first collegiate goal at 30:39 to extend the margin to 3-0. Benning and sophomore Brinkly Werkman (Marion) had the double assists.
Alexandra Watkins put the Spartans on the board with her goal at 59:13 that just squeaked past Noti.
Reiter netted her second goal of the day through the left sice at 69:57 as sophomore Ashley Frush (LaPorte City) and senior Lindsey Boyke (Verona, Wis.) had the assists.
Benning completed her four-point day with her goal at 88:34 as she capitalized on an open net.
Wartburg returns to action next Sunday in a rematch of last year's NCAA Tournament Second-Round game against UW-Whitewater at 2 p.m.
