#15 Bethel Defeats Wartburg

WAVERLY, Iowa—In the first regular-season meeting between these two programs, No. 15 Bethel (1-0 overall) defeated Wartburg (1-1) 21-0 Saturday. The two teams had previously met in the post-season in 2003 and 2010.

The game was scoreless until the Royals’ Brandon Marquardt rushed one in from nine-yards out for the first score of the day at 7:44 left in the second quarter.

The score was 7-0 at halftime until Derek Waldbillig extended Bethel’s margin to 14-0 with his eight-yard touchdown run with 7:52 to play in the third.

In the fourth quarter, the Royals’ signal caller ran the ball 49 yards for the final touchdown of the day with 4:46 remaining. Bethel’s kicker, Erik Vavra, made all three point-after attempts.

Senior Curt Hruska (New Hampton) led the Knights’ receiving group with his three catches for 56 yards. Sophomore Donald Miller (Maywood, Ill.) and freshman Brandon Domeyer (Manchester) also had three catches each for 34 and 27 yards, respectively.

Junior Connor Dahlstrom (Eldridge) led the attack on the ground with his eight carries for 34 yards.

Classmate Ryan Billings (Sterling, Ill.) led the defense with his 13 total tackles, including four that were for a loss of eight yards.

Sophomore Drew Kooi (Minooka, Ill.) led the team with six solo tackles.

The Orange and Black return to action next week as they travel to Kenosha, Wis. to face Carthage College next Saturday at 1 p.m.
