WAVERLY, Iowa-- In a battle atop the Iowa Conference standings, Luther defeated Wartburg 75-61.

The Knights now stand at 10-7 overall and 5-2 in IIAC games while the Norse are 13-5, 6-1.

Senior Mitchell Murphy (Cresco) led the Orange and Black with 12 points while junior Eddie Diemer (Cedar Falls) joined him in double figures with 10 that he scored in the first 10 minutes of the game.

Junior Thomas Perkins (Sun Valley, Nev.) was the team's leading rebounder with 10 on the night.

Luther took the narrow 35-32 lead at halftime.

The margin stayed in single digits for the majority of the second half and the Orange and Black sliced it to four points (61-57) with 6:33 remaining.

The Norse answered back with a 8-2 run over the next minute and a half to build the lead to double digits.

Wartburg held the team advantages in rebounds (38-28) and free throw percentage (.759 vs. .700).

The Knights return to action Saturday when they host Loras at 4 p.m.
