WAVERLY, Iowa-- The Wartburg volleyball team (14-7 overall) split its Friday matches at its own Knights Classic.

The Knights swept St. Olaf (6-13) 25-15, 25-13 and 25-20 to move its winning streak to 10 straight.

The Orange and Black were swept by No. 3 St. Thomas (16-1), but pushed the defending National Champions to extra points (28-26, 25-17 and 26-24).

Against the Oles, senior Maddie Forsyth (Charles City) had a career-best 17 kills. Senior Kelly Niemann (Fredricksburg) joined her in double digits with 11 kills.

Wartburg's defense held St. Olaf to a negative 0.29 team hitting percentage in the second set alone.

Against the Tommies, the Knights were ahead 15-6 in the first set before UST rallied to tie the score at 22-22. The set was tied four more times before St. Thomas won 28-26.

In the second set, the Tommies started on a 6-0 run, but the Orange and Black battled back to even the score at 11 all. UST then began to build its lead once more to take the second frame.

The third set was tied nine times, including at 24-24. A Knights' setting error and a St. Thomas kill gave the Tommies the sweep.

Wartburg returns to action tomorrow in its final two matches of the Knights Classic.
