Knights Advance to Tournament Championship Game

DECORAH, Iowa-- The Wartburg men's basketball team (15-11 overall) upset top-seeded Luther (18-8) 62-57 Friday in the Iowa Conference tournament semifinal game.

Junior Eddie Diemer (Cedar Falls) led all scorers with 16 points. Seniors Brandon Flenor (Baltimore, Md.) and Mitchell Murphy (Cresco) joined him in double figures with 14 and 11 points, respectively.

The Knights took the 34-25 lead into the locker room at halftime.

In the second frame the Orange and Black built their margin to nine twice.

It was a three-point game with 0:53 to go as the Norse made a trey to make the score 60-57 in favor of Wartburg.

Murphy made both free throws with two seconds left to seal the win.

With the win, the Knights will face Dubuque Sunday in Dubuque at 2 p.m. This marks the Orange and Black's first appearance in the tournament championship game since the 2008-09 season.

Wartburg is seeking its first conference tournament win since the 2000-01 season.

The winner will receive the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Championship tournament.
