MOUNT VERNON, Iowa-- Nonconference opponent, Cornell, swept Wartburg 5-1 and 4-3 Tuesday night.

The first game was scoreless until the fourth inning when the Rams plated five.

Freshman Kayla Nielson (Roland) put the Knights on the scoreboard when she drove in classmate Abby Staudt (Rockford) on her RBI single.

Newcomer Samantha Wurtzel (Manly) led the team at the plate (2-3) and senior Stacey Kayser (Jesup) went 2-4.

In the finale, sophomore Tori Herzberg (San Tan Valley, Ariz.) gave the Orange and Black the early lead as drove in classmate Jess Brunko (Independence) on her single to right field.

Cornell evened the score in the third on an RBI single of its own.

Wartburg regained the 3-1 lead in the fourth.

The Rams knotted the score once more in the fifth and scored the eventual game-winning run in the sixth.

Herzberg finished a perfect 3-3 at the plate and Kayser went 2-4.
