The Series:
Wartburg leads the all-time series 1-0 as the programs only met last season. The Knights won 27-3 in Kenosha, Wis.
A Look at the Teams:
Carthage:
The Red Men won their season opener last week, 52-6 over Lakeland College.
Carthage collected 401 total offensive yards, 191 yards rushing and 210 passing, while Lakeland had 224 yards, just 16 on the ground and 208 in the air. Carthage quarterback A.J. Simoncelli completed 21-of-38 passes for 210 yards.
Jamahl Wright caught 12 passes for 155 yards, and
Reggie Miller ran for 79 yards on nine carries. Lakeland quarterback Dylan Van Straten completed 17-of-28 passes for 203 yards. Defensively, the Red Men's
Marcus Harnett intercepted two passes, and
Greg Money collected a team-leading 11 tackles (8 solo, 3 assisted) and picked off one pass.
Wartburg:
The Wartburg football team fell 30-17 to No. 8 Bethel last Saturday on the road.
On their first drive, the Royals' field goal attempt was blocked.
Sophomore Logan Schrader (Kildeer, Ill.) threw for 167 yards, two touchdowns and unfortunately, three interceptions.
Junior Donald Miller (Maywood, Ill.) led all receivers with his seven catches for 67 yards. Senior Brandon Steggall (Waverly) had his first touchdown reception, in the fourth quarter today.
Senior Taylor Jacobsmeier (Wapello) was the team's leading rusher with his 50 yards on eight carries.
Junior Drew Kooi (Minooka, Ill.) led the defense with a career-high 12 total tackles with a team-best and career-best seven solo and 10 assists. Senior Ryan Billings (Sterling, Ill.) joined him in double-digits with 13 tackles, just one shy of his career mark.
Miguel Lozan and Spencer Capitani each had a sack.
Wartburg held the advantage in TFL as it had nine for a loss of 24 yards.
Bethel held the slight advantage in rushing yards, 119-116.
