WAVERLY, Iowa – The Wartburg volleyball team (8-6 overall, 2-0 IIAC) return to action this weekend at the Just A Game Fieldhouse for the IIAC/NAC Challenge in Wisconsin Dells, Wis.
The Knights remain undefeated in the Iowa Conference heading into this weekend against all nonconference NAC competition. The IIAC's top four teams were invited to the tournament including Coe (14-2), Dubuque (6-5) and Loras (6-6).
The Orange and Black will face Edgewood College at 2 p.m. and Benedictine University at 6 p.m. on Friday. Competition continues through Saturday with Dominican University at 10 a.m. and Lakeland College at 2 p.m.
A Look at the Teams:
Edgewood College (13-3):
Senior Jessica Martin and sophomore Jordan Winkler lead the team with 165 and 144 kills, respectively and Winkler with 226 digs this season.
Seniors Sam Himmelspach and Rachel Thomsen are also key players reaching 514 and 335 digs last season.
Benedictine University (5-8):
Senior Candice Cuppini leads the Eagles with 157 kills and 3.74 kills per set this season.
Junior Abby Sattler ranks first on the team with 374 sets, 8.31 assists per set and 25 service aces this season.
Dominican University (11-5):
Senior Claire Dezelski landed conference honors last week leading the Stars with 4.06 kills per set and a team best hitting percentage of .248, equally 231 kills this season.
Junior Cheyanne Kelly leads defensively with 303 digs and 5.32 digs per set this season.
Lakeland College (9-7):
Senior Katie Freitag leads the Muskies offensively with 155 kills, 2.87 kills per set and 38 blocks this season.
Senior Brittany Reindl is also an asset totaling 25 service aces, 509 assists and 9.43 assists per set.
Wartburg:
Junior Bailey Wilson (West Des Moines) leads the Knights with 132 kills and .376 hitting percentage. Seniors Kelly Niemann (Fredricksburg) and Maddie Forsyth (Charles City) join her in triple digits with 129 and 126, respectively.
Classmate Ramey Sieck (Fayette) has 425 assists and Marissa Shinstine (Tripoli) has 186 digs.
