The Vikings got on the board in the 34
th minute after a hand ball was called in the box. Kelly Farell (Sylvania, Ohio) took the kick and Augustana took the lead 1-0.
In the 39
th minute the Vikings almost got another but a Wartburg goalkeeper Beth Crow (North Liberty) had a great save as she got one hand on the ball and knocked it over the cross bar.
In the second half, the Knights would answer in the 47
th minute as junior Brittany Frush (La Porte) crossed the ball, Augustana goalkeeper Margaret Williams (Rock Island, Ill) dove but missed the ball and freshman Alyssa Hewitt (Clive) was there to tie the game at 1-1.
After the game was tied, the rest of regulation was pretty even as the defense on both teams stepped up and each team only had two more shots on goal.
The defensive trend continued through overtime as the Vikings outshot the Knights 4-3 with no one being able to score.
Wartburg goalkeeper Crow had eight saves for the Knights as Williams had five saves for the Vikings.
The Knights will be back in action Saturday as the host conference foe Dubuque.
