No. 5 Wartburg to Host No. 20 St. Thomas in NCAA First-round

WAVERLY, Iowa-- The No. 5 Wartburg football team (10-0 overall) will host No. 20 St. Thomas (8-2) Saturday at noon in an NCAA Tournament First-round game.

Tickets
$8 for adults and $4 for students and children. There will be no pre-sale of tickets and the ticket window will open at 10:30 a.m.

The two programs have never previously met.

A Look at the Teams
St. Thomas

The Tommies received an at-large bid to the tournament after they tied for second in the MIAC along with Concordia-Moorhead and Bethel.

This is St. Thomas' fifth NCAA football playoff berth in the last six seasons and sixth overall since joining Division III in the late 1980s.

Jack Kaiser leads the team on the ground with 654 yards on 103 carries and has seven TDs. The Tommies have two quarterbacks that have thrown for over 1,000 yards this season. Matt O'Connell has thrown for 1,190 for seven TDs and John Gould has thrown for 1,150 with 14 TDs.

Charlie Dowdle is the team's leading receiver with 581 yards on 42 catches and has 11 TDs.

Wartburg
The Knights earned the automatic bid to the tournament as they won the IIAC Championship for the second-straight year.

The Orange and Black will make their 11th appearance in the NCAA Tournament and eighth under head coach Rick Willis.

Wartburg has six playoff wins in its program's history.

Junior Logan Schrader (Kildeer, Ill.) has thrown for 2,574 yards with 27 touchdowns. He is 155-241-5 and has a 186.85 passing efficiency.

Classmate Brandon Domeyer (Manchester) leads the team on the ground and has 854 yards with 14 TDs. Senior Taylor Jacobsmeier (Wapello) leads all receivers with 49 catches for 866 yards with seven TDs. Junior Robbie Anstoetter (Farley) has a team-best 10 TD receptions.

Junior Gunner Tranel (Vinton) leads the defense with 97 total tackles (58 solo and 39 assisted). He has a team-best 1035 tackles for a loss of 37 yards.
