Wilson Named Capital One/CoSIDA First-team Academic All-American

WAVERLY, Iowa-- Senior Bailey Wilson (West Des Moines) was named a Capital One/CoSIDA First-team Academic All-American, the Collegiate Sports Information Directors of America announced today.

She becomes the 88th Academic All-American at Wartburg and first from the volleyball program since Jenni Donohue in 2000.

"This award really does mean so much to me as I have always worked hard in both the classroom and the volleyball court, and to be awarded this honor with such talented other athletes is really a humbling experience," said Wilson. "Balancing my math, economics, and spanish classes along with daily practices, games, and tournaments is not the easiest job in the world, but my coaches, teammates, and professors have been the most supportive and encouraging people in achieving success with it all.

"Wartburg College emphasizes being a student-athlete, which my coaches have always enforced," she continued. "I am so blessed to be a part of such a wonderful program and school that has allowed me to do everything I love while in college. Now that my senior year is coming to an end, I am finding it hard to imagine leaving this wonderful place that has allowed me to create the best memories and experiences through my participation on campus, in the classroom, and on the volleyball court. I love Wartburg College and I love volleyball!"

To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must have a cumulative GPA of 3.30 or better and must have participated in at least 50 percent of the team's games at the position listed on the nomination form (where applicable).

Wilson has a 4.00 cumulative GPA and is a math and economics double major. She is the only honoree from the Iowa Conference.

"Bailey is the epitome of a successful student-athlete," said co-head coach Jennifer Walker. "She has worked diligently and purposefully both in the classroom and on the court. As a co-captain this year, she is a great example to the rest of our team on how someone can excel in both of these arenas.  During her four years here, Bailey has been an outstanding representative of our volleyball program and of Wartburg College. It's wonderful that she is finally receiving this most deserved recognition for her academic efforts."

Wilson ended her career as Wartburg's all-time leader in attack percentage (.351). Wilson also ranks fourth in block assists (313), fifth in total blocks (426) and matches played (146), sixth in blocks solo (113), seventh in kills (1,268) and eighth in sets played (519).
