Storm Take Two from Knights

Schoon went a perfect 4-4 in the night cap Tuesday.
INDIANOLA, Iowa-- Simpson took both games of the doubleheader against Wartburg Tuesday night. The Storm won the first game, 12-3 in five innings, but the Knights rallied to force extra innings in the nightcap as Simpson won 10-9 in nine innings.

In the first game, Simpson plated three runs in the second and four in the third to take the 7-0 lead. The Orange and Black plated three runs in the fourth before the Storm scored five in the fifth to take the game.

In the night cap, Simpson scored one in the first before Wartburg answered in the second on an RBI single from Micaela Forsyth. The Knights then took the 4-1 lead in the third as Britt Schoon slugged a three-run homer over the left centerfield fence.

The Storm regained the lead on a four-run fourth inning and plated an additional run in the fifth to make it 6-4.

Savannah Warburton's grand slam gave the Orange and Black the 8-6 lead in the bottom of the inning. Simpson knotted the game once again in the sixth on a two-run homer.

In the seventh, the Storm had the bases loaded but were left stranded as a strikeout and a line out ended the inning.

Since the games were scheduled to be at Wartburg originally, it had the last at-bats but was unable to score in the seventh to send the game to extra innings.

Simpson scored two in the top of the ninth on a two-run double. The Storm had runners on second and third, but the next batter fouled out to third base to give the Knights one more at-bat.

Jess Brunko hit a leadoff single, advanced to second on Schoon's single and scored on Kirby Meyer's RBI single. The Orange and Black had runners on first and second but a foul out and a strikeout ended the threat to give Simpson the win.

Schoon led all hitters as she was a perfect 4-4 at the plate, including three RBIs.

Wartburg returns to the field Saturday when it travels to Central for a doubleheader at 2 p.m.
