CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa-- The Wartburg softball team fell 4-0 and 5-0 to No. 9 Coe Saturday.
In the first game, junior Jess Brunko (Independence) hit a leadoff single to left field for the Knights' first of seven hits in the game. The Kohawks took the early 1-0 lead as the leadoff batter hit a solo shot over the centerfield fence.
Coe tallied its final three runs in the third inning. The Orange and Black had a batter record a hit or reached on an error in every inning, but the Kohawks did not allow a baserunner past second.
Brunko went 2-4 and Taylor Smola finished 2-3.
In the finale, Coe scored two in the first and second innings to take the early 4-0 lead. As she did in the first game, Brunko hit a leadoff single in her first at-bat to left field for Wartburg.
The Kohawks plated their final run in the third inning.
Kirby Meyer and Amanda Hoeg recorded the other two hits for the Knights.
The Orange and Black finish the season with an overall record of 17-19 and quadrupled their win total from a year ago.
