WINONA, Minn.-- The Wartburg volleyball team started the season 2-0 with wins over UW-LaCrosse and Gustavus Friday at the Saint Mary's (Minn.) Sugar Loaf Classic.
The Knights defeated the Eagles 3-2 (20-25, 25-22, 25-23, 21-25, 15-12) and senior Bailey Wilson (West Des Moines) and sophomore Claire Willenbring (Dyersville) each recorded 18 kills. This marked a new career-high for both players.
Junior Emma Harmeyer (West Des Moines) also had a new career mark with 47 assists and added 11 digs. Classmate Jamie Farley (Cedar Falls) had a team-best 30 digs while sophomore Anne Buscher () had 17 and Willenbring added 10.
The Orange and Black swept the Gusties 3-0 (25-13, 25-15, 25-18). Wilson was the lone hitter in double digit kills with 12. Harmeyer had 25 assists and senior Karly Bown (Lincoln, Neb.) had a team-best three service aces and 12 digs.
