The Wartburg's women's soccer team scored three second-half goals to shutout UW Stevens Point 4-0 Saturday.
The first half was very competitive as both teams started strong and challenged each other. The Knights had many chances to score but couldn't convert until they were awarded a free kick in the 32
nd minute.
Senior Brinkly Werkman (Marion) took the kick and netted her first goal of the season, a shot to the top right corner.
In the second half, the Knights opened up their lead as they scored three goals in a matter of eight minutes.
All three goals were scored by junior Brittany Frush (La Porte City), one by free kick and another by a penalty kick. The other goal was assisted by freshman Alyssa Hewitt (Clive).
Frush's three goals was one shy of the single-game school record which was set by Kat Breitbach in 2002, Shaki Elliot in 2003, Coach Pins (Tiffany Treanor, twice in the 2004 season) and then-junior Kerri Golinghurst (Dixon) last season..
The Knights outshot their opponent 26-7. Freshman Beth Crow (North Liberty) and senior Katie Reinhardt (Waverly) combined for the shutout and the Orange and Black got their first win of the season to make their overall record 1-1-1. Â Â
Wartburg is back on the field tomorrow as it takes on Augsburg.
