Peth Earns Career Victory No. 500 in Win over Simpson

WAVERLY, Iowa-- Wartburg head coach Dick Peth earned his 500th victory of his career in the 74-57 win over Simpson Saturday.



The Knights improved to 10-5 on the season and 3-1 in Iowa Conference play while the Storm fell to 6-9, 1-3.

Four players finished in double digits for the Orange and Black and were led by 20 points from sophomore Jordan Cannon (Bolingbrook, Ill.), just two shy of his career best. Freshman Nate Woeste (Atkins) had a career-high 17 points. Sophomore Nick Webber (Peosta) and senior Clay Cook (West Branch) each had 15 points. Cook also recorded the fourth double-double of the season as he also had 15 rebounds, which included seven offensive boards.

Woeste had 14 of his total points in the second half as Cannon also scored 10 in the frame. Cook recorded his double-double in the second half with 10 points and as many rebounds.

In the first half, neither team led by more than five points until it was tied at 25 all with 5:21 to go. The Orange and Black compiled a 10-3 run over the rest of the frame to build their lead to seven.

Wartburg took a 35-28 lead into halftime and outscored the Storm 39-29 in the second half. The Knights' defense held Simpson to a .292 field goal percentage from beyond the arc.

The Orange and Black take the road on Wednesday as they play Coe in Cedar Rapids at 8 p.m.
