Cannon Nets Career-High 24 Points as Last-Second Shot Falls Short

Box Score
DUBUQUE, Iowa-- Sophomore Jordan Cannon (Bolingbrook, Ill.) scored a career-high 24 points in the narrow 68-67 loss to Loras Wednesday. He also recorded his first collegiate double-double with a team-best ten rebounds.

Wartburg took the 31-28 lead at halftime. In the second frame, the Knights led by as many as nine points at five minutes in. The Duhawks sliced the lead to one with 10:23 to play and then took the one-point lead with 9:33 on the board. The teams traded layups as the Orange and Black once again regained the one-point lead on a layup by senior Clay Cook (West Branch) with 8:10 to play.

The lead changed hands twice over the next five minutes as Wartburg built its lead to six with 3:59 remaining. A 5-0 run by Loras over the next minute and a half to slice the margin to one.

Freshman Nate Woeste (Atkins) made both of his free throws at 1:52 to give a three-point lead to the Knights. Back to back buckets by the Duhawks gave them the one-point lead with 0:51 to go. Sophomore Nick Webber (Peosta) made the go-ahead basket with 0:17 on the clock. Loras got the ball back and made the eventual game-winning layup with four seconds remaining.

The Orange and Black brought the ball up the floor and Cannon's buzzer beater three-point shot was short as time expired.

Cook and Woeste finished in double figures with 15 and 10 points, respectively.

Wartburg takes to the road Saturday when it travels to face Simpson at 4 p.m.
