DUBUQUE, Iowa-- It took five sets, but the Wartburg volleyball team came away victorious with a 3-2 (
(23-25,25-12,23-25,27-25,15-10) win over Dubuque Tuesday to move its winning streak to nine.
WARTBURG at UNIVERSITY OF DUBUQUE HIGHLIGHTSThe Knights are now 18-3 overall and 4-1 in Iowa Conference games, while the Spartans are now 12-13, 2-3. With the win, the Orange and Black hae clinched a spot in the IIAC tournament.
Senior Krystal Graves (Cedar Falls) had a team-best 11 kills and freshman Lizzy Blough (Dike) was close behind with 10 kills. Sophomore Maria Brown (Peosta) had 24 set assists and senior Emma Harmeyer (West Des Moines) had 22 as they co-ran the team's offense.
Five players finished with double-digit digs as senior Jamie Farley (Cedar Falls) had 18, Brown had 17, Harmeyer had 16, senior Kalyn Ertz (Mediapolis) had 14 and freshman Kathryn Nasby (Jackson, MInn.) had 11.
After dropping the first set, Wartburg started the second set on a 17-4 run. The third set was closer as it was tied late in the game at 18 all and the Knights compiled a late rally to come within one at 24-23. The fourth set went into extra points as the Orange and Black tied it at 25-25 and then won the next two points on kills. In the final set, Wartburg opened on a 11-6 run and did not relinquish its lead.
The Knights return to action this weekend at St. Kate's Invitational.
