Strong Second Half Propels #6 Wartburg Past Central

WAVERLY, Iowa-- Sixth-ranked Wartburg moved to 4-0 in its 21-13 Homecoming win over Central (2-2, 0-1) Saturday. The 6,300 attendance mark now stands as the second-best in Walston-Hoover Stadium history; the record is 6,500 set against Coe on Oct, 20, 2007.

The Knights were driving on their first possession of the second quarter and the Dutchs' defense stopped them twice at the goal line. Central went three-and-out in its next drive and the Orange and Black took advantage of the good field possesion as they compiled a five-play, 53-yard scoring drive as senior Logan Schrader (Kildeer, Ill.) ran it in for his first score of the day from 13 yards out.

The Dutch responded with scoring drive of its own, thanks in part to a 77-yard run. The extra point kick failed so Wartburg remained ahead, 7-6.Central took the 13-7 lead at halftime.

The Knights scored 14 unanswered points in the second half as they senior Brandon Domeyer (Manchester) had his touchdown on their first drive of the third quarter. He now has sole possession of third on the program's all-time career leader list with 42 rushing touchdowns.

Schrader used his feet once again to score his second TD on Wartburg's next drive, this one from two yards out. Senior Michael Bohlke (Manchester) made all three point after kicks and ranks third with 118 for his career.

Senior Logan Pitz (Farley) sealed the win with his interception on Cental's 30-yard line with 25 seconds to play.

Senior Robbie Anstoetter (Farley) had a team-best seven receptions for 119 yards, his third-straight game with triple digit yards. Schrader finished with 273 yards through the air and was 23-30-2. Domeyer had 85 yards and one TD.

Pitz and senior Gunner Tranel (Vinton) co-led the defense with eight total tackles as Pitz had a team-best six solo tackles. He also added two pass breakups to move him into second on the career leader list with 32. He now needs four more to become the all-time leader.
