Sophomore Jordan Cannon (Bolingbrook, Ill.) had a team-high 21 points, classmate Nick Webber (Peosta) had 14, senior Clay Cook (West Branch) had 14 and classmate Dan Van Groningen (Oak Forest, Ill.) had 10.
This was Cannon's fifth 20+ point game of the season.
BV took the 51-35 lead into halftime and Wartburg outscored the hosts, 49-43, in the second half, but it wasn't enough to overcome the initial margin.
In the second frame, the Orange and Black were within three with 8:56 to play and then within two with 8:29 to go as senior Marc Ellis hit a trey. Wartburg again sliced the margin to three with 2:10 remaining on a jumper by Cook.
Buena Vista made their free throws down the stretch to seal the win.
The Knights return to the court Saturday when they host Dubuque at 4 p.m.
