WAVERLY, Iowa-- Wartburg (15-5 overall) moved its winning streak to 13 with its 9-0 and 10-1 sweep over Augsburg (4-14) Friday. This marks the fourth-longest winning streak in program history.
In the first game, senior Britt Schoon (Waukee) helped the Knights take the early lead with her two-run home run in the first. The Orange and Black doubled their margin in the second and added five runs in the fourth, which included a three-run homer by freshman Kristie Sommer (Cedar Rapids).
The Auggies were retired in order in the top of the fifth to seal the run-rule win.
In the finale, Wartburg was the first team on the board once more as it tallied two runs in the second on RBI doubles from senior Katie Wyman (Springville) and Sommer. Augsburg scored its lone run of the day in the third inning.
The Knights added one in the fourth on a bases loaded walk and two in the fifth on an RBI single from Wyman who scored on the next batter, junior Micaela Forsyth (Charles City) double to make the score 5-1.
The Orange and Black scored their final five runs in the sixth, which included a walk-off double from Forsyth to solidify the sweep.
Wartburg retuns to action tomorrow at Augustana's tournament.
