Meyer Hits the Walk-Off Single in Split with UW-Stout

MOLINE, Ill.-- The Wartburg softball team (16-6 overall) split with UW-Stout (7-11) at Augustana's tournament Saturday.

In the first game, the Blue Devils plated four in the bottom of the second to take the early lead. Sophomore Courtney Belk (Bettendorf) drove in junior Micaela Forsyth (Charles City) and freshman Kristie Sommer (Cedar Rapids) for two runs for the Knights in the third. The Orange and Black scored their final run of the game in the fifth on an RBI single from senior Britt Schoon (Waukee). Wartburg was retired in order in the sixth and seventh and unable to compile a late rally.

In the finale, each team scored two in the third inning. Neither team scored in the next four frames to send it to extra innings. UW-Stout, who was the visitor in this game, scored the go-ahead run on a sacrifice fly in the top of the eighth.

Freshman Erica Countryman (Plainfield, Ill.) knotted the score as she crossed the plate on junior Taylor Smola's (Stevens Point, Wis.) fielder's choice and sophomore Kirby Meyer (Charles City) won the game on her walk-off single which scored Belk.

Wartburg will face Ripon and No. 16 Augustana tomorrow.
