Softball Splits Games Wednesday

Blom pitched a no-hitter Wednesday.
FORT MEYERS, Fla.-- The Wartburg softball team split its games Wednesday as it fell 5-4 to Milwaukee School of Engineering and shutout Newbury, 8-0, in five innings.

The game against MSOE was scoreless until the Raiders plated four in the top of the third. The Knights tied the score in the bottom of the fifth on four hits, which included a two-run single by Paige Blom. MSOE scored the go-ahead run in the top of the seventh and the Orange and Black had runners at second and third with one out. Unfortunately, the next batter hit into a double play to end the threat and seal the win for the Raiders.

In the second game of the day, Wartburg struck first with three runs in the third. The Knights added five runs in the next frame, which included a two-run single from Courtney Belk and a two-run homer by Brit Schoon.

Only one Newbury player reached base (on a walk) as Blom pitched a no-hitter in her fifth complete game of the season. This was the first no-hitter for Wartburg since March 22, 2009 in the 11-0 win over Martin Luther.

The Orange and Black has their off day Thursday and will return to the field Friday.
