STORM LAKE, Iowa-- Iowa Conference opponent, Buena Vista (15-14-1 overall, 6-4 IIAC) took both games of the doubleheader against Wartburg (19-16, 0-10) Monday.
The Beavers claimed the opener 14-6 in six innings and the finale, 9-3.
In the first game, the Knights took the early 3-0 lead in the first on a three-run homer by sophomore Kirby Meyer (Charles City). This was her first collegiate roundtripper. BV plated two in the bottom of the frame, but the Orange and Black scored another three runs in the second which included a leadoff homerun from senior Katie Wyman (Springville) to make the score 6-2.
Buena Vista scored 12 unanswered runs to claim the first game in six innings.
In the finale, BV jumped to the early 5-0 lead after the first inning. They added one in the fifth and Wartburg got on the board with three runs in the sixth as sophomore Courtney Belk (Bettendorf) slugged a three-run double.
The Beavers plated their final three runs in the sixth.
Wyman and freshman Katie Sommer (Cedar Rapids) each went 2-3 in the game. Sophomore Kimberly Wedeking (Clarksville) had the complete game in the circle with six strikeouts.
The Knights return to the field tomorrow when they host Loras at 4 p.m.
