INDIANOLA, Iowa-- The Wartburg softball team (22-17 overall, 3-11 IIAC) ended it season with a split against Simpson (29-9, 8-6) Sunday. The Knights won the opener, 5-1, but fell in a walkoff in the finale, 5-4.
The first game was scoreless until the third when junior Micaela Forsyth (Charles City) slugged a two-run double to right centerfield. The Storm plated their only run in the fifth.
The Knights plated three in the seventh to seal the win. Senior Paige Blom (Reasnor) went the distance and earned her team-best 13th win in the circle.
In the finale, Simpson plated one in the second and this remained the score until the Orange and Black plated two in the fifth to take the 2-1 lead.
Sophomore Taylor Smola (Stevens Point, Wis.) drove in the final two runs for Wartburg in the top of the seventh with her single to extend the lead to 4-1.With two outs, the Storm strung together four consecutive hits to win the game.
Smola went 2-2 with three RBIs.
