WAVERLY, Iowa-- The Wartburg volleyball team (7-1 overall) opened the Iowa Conference portion of its schedule with a 3-0 sweep over Simpson Wednesday. The Knights have now won the last six straight meetings, dating back to the 2010 season.
WARTBURG vs. SIMPSON HIGHLIGHTSThe Orange and Black won 25-21, 25-18 and 25-21 behind a match-high 14 kills from junior Claire Willenbring (Dyersville). Senior Emma Harmeyer (West Des Moines) tallied 31 assists running Wartburg's offense and classmate Jamie Farley (Cedar Falls) recorded 11 digs anchoring the defense.
As a team, the Knights held the advantages in hitting percentage (.354 vs .204), kills (43-34) and service aces (7-4).
The Orange and Black started the second set on a 12-5 run and the third set on a 8-2 run. Wartburg held Simpson to a .083 hitting percentage in the first set alone.
