Football Defeats Simpson 20-6

WAVERLY, Iowa-- The Wartburg football team (4-2 overall, 3-1 IIAC) defeated Simpson (2-4, 1-3) 20-6 in the annual Homecoming game Saturday.

The Knights took the 10-0 lead in the first quarter which they never relinquished. Sophomore kicker Brayton Brandt (Center Point) was 2-2 in field goal attempts and made a career-best of 39 yards which broke his previous mark of 32.

Junior Connor Schrader (Lake Zurich, Ill.) led the team on the ground with 118 yards and one TD. Sophomore Matt Sacia (Eldridge) was 15-23 for 174 yards. Junior Griffin Brennecke (Marion) had 86 yards on five receptions while classmate Riley Brockway (Postville) had 80 yards on seven catches.

Senior Brendan Schott (Coggan) led the defense with 13 total tackles and classmate Dalton Ciavarelli (Clarksville) had a team-best 3.0 tackles for loss.
