Wartburg Sweeps Simpson on Senior Day

WAVERLY, Iowa—Wartburg (17-5 overall, 6-1 IIAC) defeated Simpson (9-13, 1-6 IIAC) 3-0 (25-15, 25-17, 25-14) on Saturday to solidify a spot in the conference tournament. Seeds are yet to be determined.

The Knights were in command during the second set by going on a 10-1 run.

The Orange and Black were led by junior Aryn Jones (Marion) with 12 kills and a career-high .647 hitting percentage. Jones also tallied three service aces and five solo blocks.

Junior Maria Brown (Peosta) and sophomore Mallary Erbes (Urbandale) co-ran Wartburg's offense, tallying 18 and 12 assists, respectively.

Brown also totaled three service aces.

Wartburg's defense was led by sophomore Kathryn Nasby (Jackson, Minn.) with 12 digs.

For the Storm, Hannah Lester had a team-high six kills.

Alyssa Mathews led the offensive effort with 15 assists.

Simpson's defensive effort was led by Madison Hawtrey and Kayla Aronow with 8 digs each.

The Knights held the team advantages in kills (36-23), hitting percentage (.261-.010), assists (33-22), service aces (9-3), digs (41-32), solo blocks (9-1) and total team blocks (9-3).

The Storm held the advantage in block assists (4-0).

The Orange and Black are on the road Tuesday, Oct. 25 at Dubuque.
