WAVERLY, Iowa—Wartburg (19-5) took down No. 18 Northwestern-St. Paul (26-4), 3-1 (22-25, 25-20, 25-18, 25-22). The Knights snapped the Eagles' 14-match winning streak and UNW was also the No. 1 ranked team in the region, while Wartburg was No. 6.
For Wartburg, junior Aryn Jones (Marion) led the team with 17 kills. Senior Brooke Krogman (Preston) had a team-high .462 hitting percentage.
Co-running the Knights' offense was sophomore Mallary Erbes (Urbandale) with 25 assists and junior Maria Brown (Peosta) with 22.
Erbes recorded a double-double with a team-high 17 digs.
Sophomore Lizzy Blough also had a double-double with 11 kills and 14 digs.
The Eagles were led by Lindsey Peterson with 23 kills.
Leesa Hulstrand and Kaelyn Kilbo co-led Northwestern's offense with 21 and 13 assists, respectively.
The defensive effort for the Eagles was led by Jackie Doering with a team-high 17 digs.
Wartburg held the advantage in kills (53-46), hitting percentage (.200-.124), assists (50-41), service aces (8-3) and digs (74-72).
The Eagles held the advantages in solo blocks (6-5), block assists (6-4) and total team blocks (9-7).
Up next for the Knights is the Iowa Conference Tournament on Friday, Nov. 4 at the U.S. Cellular Center in Cedar Rapids. Wartburg will face the winner of Central and Nebraska Wesleyan.
