ST PAUL-- The Wartburg volleyball team's season (21-6 overall) came to an end in the 3-0 loss to Gustavus Adolphus (24-7) Thursday in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.

Junior Aryn Jones (Marion) had a team-best nine kills and sophomore Lizzy Blough (Dike) finished with seven. Junior Maria Brown (Peosta) had 15 set assists and sophomore Mallary Erbes (Urbandale) finished with 13 as they co-ran the 6-2 offense.
Sophomore Kathryn Nasby (Jackson, Minn.) recorded 23 digs, Erbes had 18 and Brown had 13.
In the first set, the Gusties compiled a four-point run to take the 15-12 lead. The Knights compiled a late rally and knotted the score at 23 all on a kill from Erbes. Gustavus pulled ahead on an Orange and Black hitting error and block.
In the second set, the Gusties jumped to a 4-0 lead but Wartburg battled back to make it a one-point game at 7-6. The Gusties then built its margin with another five-point run and the Knights were not able to rally.
The score of the final set was tied five times including at 9-9. Gustavus used a four-point run to take the 19-14 lead and sealed the win on a five-point run.
As a team, the Orange and Black held the advantages in digs (71-65) and blocks (8-7).
