WAVERLY, Iowa -- The Wartburg men's basketball team (4-0) defeated Bethany Lutheran (1-2) on Tuesday, 98-95. The win marked the first victory on the road for the Knights this season.
Wartburg trailed Bethany Lutheran 51-39 in the first half, scoring just 13-30 field goals and shooting 2-11 from the three-point arc. The Knights turned it on in the second half, outscoring the Vikings 59-44, to get the win.
The Knights were led by sophomore Jaran Sabus (Urbandale), who had a game-high 22 points and added six rebounds. Sabus made each of his 10 free-throw attempts.
Six other Wartburg players recorded double digits on the night including senior Nick Webber (Peosta) with 14 points, senior Lenart Kalan (
Skofja Loka, Slovenia) with 12, juniors Clifton Brown (Mims, Fla.) and Nate Woeste (Atkins) and senior Jordan Cannon (Bolingbrook, Ill.) with 11 and sophomore Cam Kickbush (Reinbeck) with 10.
Sabus, Kalan, Woeste and Kickbush all recorded two steals.
Wartburg will look to stay undefeated when they take the court again on Saturday at 3 p.m. at Governors State.
