CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa-- The
Wartburg volleyball team (21-5 overall) won its second consecutive Iowa Conference Tournament Championship in the 3-1 win over Coe (23-11) Saturday. This also marked the fourth tournament title in five years for the program.
With the win, the Knights received the automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament and will learn their opponent and match location during the selection show Monday at 11:30 a.m.
The Orange and Black used a .481 team hitting percentage in the fourth set to claim the match.
Sophomore Lizzy Blough (Dike) led the team with 15 kills and conference MVP junior Aryn Jones (Marion) followed with 12 and a .346 hitting percentage. Junior Maria Brown (Peosta) tallied 25 assists while sophomore Mallary Erbes (Urbandale) had 19 in the 6-2 offense.
Sophomore Kathryn Nasby had a team-best 26 digs while Erbes followed with 23. Blough, Nasby and senior Claire Willenbring (Dyersville) each had two service aces.
As a team, Wartburg held the advantages in hitting percentage (.300 vs .157), assists (52-50), service aces (7-2), digs (81-67) and blocks (10-3).
The Knights will now make the program's 10th appearance in the NCAA Tournament next weekend.
