WAVERLY, Iowa-- Wartburg (16-10 overall), the No. 2 seed, hosts Central (18-9), the No. 5 seed, in the Iowa Conference Tournament championship game Saturday at 7 p.m. The winner receives the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
This game marks the first meeting between the Dutch and the Knights in the conference tournament championship. The last time these two teams met in the conference tournament was the quarterfinals of the 2004 bracket where Wartburg won 75-62. It is Wartburg's ninth overall and second straight appearance in program history in the conference tournament championship game.
The Knights hold the all-time series lead at 64-43 against the Dutch, and the teams split the games in the regular season, each winning on their home court.
This is the first time the Knights will host the IIAC Tournament championship in Levick Arena and The W. Wartburg last hosted the championship game in 2005 in Knights Gym and the former Physical Education Center (PEC) when current assistant coach Jason Steege was a junior.
