Softball Travels to WashU Tournament

The softball team (3-9 overall) will travel to St. Louis, Missouri on Saturday to compete in the WashU tournament. Wartburg will face Augustana College (7-7) and host Washington University in St. Louis (16-4). The Bears ranked number two in the latest NFCA poll.
 


Wartburg
Sophomore Mara Forsyth (Charles City) leads the Knights, averaging .568 and a team-high 21 hits while sophomore Erica Countryman (Plainfield, Ill.) follows with .400. Freshmen Liz Roby Miklus (Ankeny) and Kailee O'Brien (Altoona) hit .345 and .324, respectively. Junior Kimberly Wedeking (Clarksville) has pitched 34.2 innings and has an ERA of 5.45.
 
Augustana
Leading the Auggies is freshman Rachel Anderson, averaging .412. Classmate Carly Wilson follows with .385. Junior Brittany Kellett and Sophomore Alaina Hofmann join them above .300 with .351 and .348. Ashley Anderson leads the starting pitchers with an ERA of 2.60 and 52 innings pitched.
 
Washington University of St. Louis
Junior Hannah Mehrle leads the team with a .545 average. Janet Taylor, Maggie Clapp, Brooke Hofer, Taylor Arends, and Kenzie James bat over .300 at .476, .474, .438, .433 and .357. Leading the starting pitchers is Annie Pitkin, with 67 innings pitched and a 1.57 ERA.

National Stat Rankings
The softball team is currently ranked in the top 100 in two statistical categories, released by the NCAA.
 
The team is ranked 62nd in triples per game (0.42) and 81st in stolen bases per game (1.50).
 
Individually, two Knights are ranked in the top 100 in five statistical categories. Junior Kimberly Wedeking (Clarksville) is ranked 27th in triples (2). Sophomore Mara Forsyth (Charles City) is ranked 27th in triples (2), 56th in slugging percentage (0.919), 60th in batting average (0.568), 80th in on base percentage (0.600) and 85th in home runs (2).
