CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa-- Coe took both games of Saturday's doubleheader, 4-3 and 6-2.
In the first game, the Kohawks scored all four of their runs in the third inning and the Knights tallied three in the fifth. Sophomore Kristie Sommer (Cedar Rapids) scored the Knights' first run on an RBI single by classmate Erica Countryman (Plainfield, Ill.), freshman Liz Roby Miklus (Ankeny) stole home and classmate Hannah Blaske (Bettendorf) drove in sophomore Katie Sommer on a single to right field. The Orange and Black had the bases loaded with one out, but unfortunately, the next batter hit into a double play to end the rally.
Blaske led the team at the plate (2-3) and sophomore Kimberly Wedeking (Clarksville) pitched her 11th complete game of the season.
In the finale, Wartburg struck first as Ka. Sommer scored on a bases loaded walk. The Kohawks answered with three in the bottom of the frame to regain the lead and tallied another run in the second and third innings to make it 5-1. Blaske drove in freshman Kailee O'Brien (Altoona) in the fifth for the Knights' final run.
Blaske and O'Brien each went 2-4 in this game.
The Orange and Black will host No. 2 Luther Tuesday at 3 p.m.
