Wartburg Hosts Simpson

WAVERLY, Iowa-- The Wartburg softball team (13-21 overall, 3-5 IIAC) hosts Simpson (28-7, 7-3) Saturday at 1 p.m.. Softball's Class of 2016, Savannah Warburton, will be recognized prior to the game.

The Series
Simpson holds the all-time series lead at 41-30. The teams split last year's meeting in Indianola.

Wartburg
Sophomore Erica Countryman (Plainfield, Ill.) leads the team at the plate with her .456 average while classmate Mara Forsyth (Charles City) follows at .442 and has a team-high 73 RBIs.

Four players average above .300 as freshman Kailee O'Brien (Altoona) is hitting .330, sophomore twin sisters Kristie and Katie Sommer (Cedar Rapids) are at .319 and .317, respectively, and freshman Hannah Blaske (Bettendorf) is at .309.

Sophomore Kimberly Wedeking (Clarksville) leads the pitchers with her 3.87 ERA, has eight wins, and 13 complete games in the circle.

Simpson
Riley Fisher leads her team at .405, Brianna Chaplin follows at .381, Rachel Guessford is at .375, Tori Haag averages .374, and Abbie VanVleet completes the leading hitters at .318.

Fisher also leads the pitching staff with a 2.27 ERA, has 13 wins, and as many complete games in the circle.

National Stat Rankings
Wartburg ranks in the Top 100 of two national stat categories the NCAA released Monday. The Knights are 23rd in stolen bases/game (2.16) and 77th in shutouts. Individually, Forsyth is 76th in slugging percentage and 88th in RBIs.
