Knights Fall to Auggies on Day One of Knights Classic

WAVERLY, Iowa— Wartburg (4-4 overall) fell to Augsburg 3-0 (25-12, 28-26, 25-21) during its first game of the Knights Classic.

In the first set, the Auggies built their lead on two six-point runs that led them to a first set victory.

During set two, Augsburg and Wartburg went to extra points, with Augsburg pulling out for the win, 28-26.

In set three, Wartburg went on a four-point run, but Augsburg pulled away with win and the match sweep.

Junior Aryn Jones (Marion) led the team in kills with 12, followed by sophomore Lizzy Blough (Dike) with six.

While co-running the offense, sophomore Mallary Erbes (Urbandale) and junior Maria Brown (Peosta) totaled 13 and 10 assists, respectively.

The Orange and Black held two team advantages in total team blocks (6-4) and solo blocks (4-0).

Freshman Abby Staebell (Hudson) tied her career-high for solo blocks with two.

For the Auggies, Jaelyn Arndt had 16 kills and Taylor Linn had seven.

Courtney Lemke had 24 assists and Morgan Malley had 15.

Augsburg had the team advantages in kills (45-32), assists (43-30), block assists (8-4), service aces (4-1) and digs (67-65).

The Knights will face St. Olaf at 10 a.m. and St. Benedict at 2 p.m. Saturday.
