Wartburg Goes 2-0 on Saturday

WAVERLY, Iowa-- Wartburg (11-4, 1-0 IIAC) took down Concordia University Wisconsin and Lakeland College on the final day of the IIAC-NACC Crossover, moving its win streak to seven.

For Wartburg, the first match of the day came against Concordia. The Orange and Black swept the Falcons, 3-0 (25-23, 25-20, 25-15).

Leading the team offensively was junior Aryn Jones (Marion) with nine kills.

Co-running the offense was sophomore Mallary Erbes (Urbandale) and junior Maria Brown (Peosta) with 17 and 10 assists, respectively.

Sophomore Kathryn Nasby (Jackson, Minn.) tallied 23 digs.

For Concordia, Kaily Moegenburg had eight kills and 12 digs.

Karina Klotz had 15 assists and Ashley Jehlicka had nine.

The Knights held team advantages in kills (36-29), hitting percentage (.195-.014), assists (35-25), digs (74-59), solo blocks (6-3), block assists (8-2) and total team blocks (10-4).

The Falcons had the team advantages in service aces (5-2).

The second match draw was against the Lakeland Muskies. Wartburg also swept this match, 3-0 (25-18, 25-23, 25-16).

Jones led the team in kills with 12, while also recording five digs and four total blocks (two solo, two blocks assists).

Erbes and Brown each recorded 16 assists.

Sophomore Lizzy Blough (Dike) had 12 digs and Brown had 11.

Wartburg had team advantages in kills (37-31), hitting percentage (.289-.084), assists (37-27), digs (58-42), solo blocks (3-2), block assists (6-4) and total team blocks (6-4).

Lakeland had advantages in service aces (4-0).

For their efforts on the weekend, Erbes and Jones were named to the All-Tournament team.

The Knights travel to Storm Lake on Friday to take on Buena Vista in IIAC action at 7:30 p.m.
