Wartburg Defeated by Buena Vista

STORM LAKE, Iowa -- The Wartburg College men's basketball team (11-4 overall, 3-3 IIAC) fell to Buena Vista (8-6, 4-1) on Wednesday 86-79.



The Beavers led by as many as eight points in the first half, but the Knights held the 41-40 advantage at the end of the period. The teams were tied with 18:44 left to play in the game. Buena Vista then took the lead and maintained the it until the final buzzer, outscoring Wartburg 46-38 in the second half.

Though the Knights were 18-20 from the free-throw line, the Beavers out-shot the competition in field goal and 3-point field goal percetages.

Junior Nate Woeste (Atkins) was the top-scorer for the Orange and Black, tallying 15 points. Senior Jordan Cannon (Bolingbrook, Ill.) added 13 points, senior Nick Webber (Peosta) had 12 and sophomore Jaran Sabus (Urbandale) scored 11 to round out the players in double digits.

Sophomore Josh Gehling (Dyersville) recorded a team-high seven rebounds and freshman Ryan Stulken (Walford) grabbed five. Webber had four assists on the night.

Wartburg will host Central at Levick Arena on Saturday at 4 p.m.
