WAVERLY, Iowa-- The Wartburg men's basketball team (10-3 overall; 2-2 IIAC) suffered its first home loss of the season in the 84-75 defeat against Loras (9-4, 2-2) Wednesday. The Duhawks extended their winning streak to six.
Senior Jordan Cannon (Bollingbrook, Ill.) led the Knights with 18 points, junior Sawyer Herman (Monticello) had 15 and sophomore Cam Kickbush (Reinbeck) rounded out the leading scorers with 10.
Loras started the game on a 10-2 run over the first four minutes until the Knights answered with a 15-0 run over the next six minutes to regain the lead at 17-10. The lead woudl change hands many times over the duration of the frame and the Orange and Black took the narrow 33-31 advantage into halftime.
The score was close again in the second frame until the Duhawks compiled a run to take the 15-point lead at 65-50 with 7:43 remaining. Wartburg used a 10-0 run to whittle the margin to three on a trey by Herman with 1:06 left and then fouled to try to get the ball back to run another play.
The Duhawks made their fouls down the stretch to seal the victory.
The Knights return to their home court Saturday against Dubuque at 4 p.m.
