DUBUQUE, Iowa-- Behind 13 kills from both junior Lizzy Blough (Dike) and senior Aryn Jones (Marion), the Wartburg volleyball team swept Loras 3-0 (25-19, 25-13, 25-19) Wednesday night. With the sweep, the Knights remained undefeated in Iowa Conference play at 5-0. The Orange and Black improved to 15-5 overall while the Duhawks fell to 9-13, 3-4.


Junior Mallary Erbes (Urbandale) had a double-double with 15 assists and 12 digs. Senior Maria Brown (Peosta) had 16 assists and freshman Katie Foster (Charles City) had 17 digs.

The score in the first set remained close and was tied for the final time at 11-11. Wartburg then won four-straight points to pull ahead at 14-11, to take the lead for good.

The second set was knotted for the final time at seven all as the Knights went on a four-point run to claim the lead.

In the final frame, the Orange and Black used a six-point run to put the match out of reach.

As a team, Wartburg held the advantages in kills (37-27), hitting percentage (.295 vs. .009), assists (37-26), digs (46-43), and blocks (7-3).

The Knights are off from competition until next Tuesday when they travel to face Cornell at 7:30 p.m.
