No 25 Wartburg Remains Undefeated in Victory over Central

PELLA, Iowa-- The No 25 Wartburg football team (5-0 overall, 3-0 IIAC) remained undefeated in the 44-20 victory over Central (3-3, 2-2) Saturday. This marked the most points scored by the Knights in the series. The previous high was 41 in the 41-14 win on Oct. 16, 1982.

On their first drive of the game, the Orange and Black compiled a five-play, 73-yard drive which culminated in a 21-yard touchdown reception by senior Riley Brockway (Postville).

The teams traded scoring drives in the quarter as the Dutch evened the score on the ensuing drive, and Wartburg answered back to regain the lead as sophomore Dylan Binion (Albany, Ill.) punched it in from two-yards out.

Late in the second quarter, junior Matt Sacia (Eldridge) connected with senior Griffin Brennecke (Marion) for a 12-yard pass, which made it 28-7.

Central capitalized on its short field possession on the next drive as a 16-yard pass completed a 46-yard drive to make the score 28-14 at halftime.

Wartburg had the ball to open the second half and increased its lead once again, this time as Sacia kept it himself for a 17-yard score. The Knights scored again later in the quarter on senior Brayton Brandt's (Center Point) 24-yard field goal.

The Dutch took advantage of a turnover early in the fourth quarter to record their final score of the game.

Binion scored his second TD of the day on the next drive, this one for 58-yards. He led the team on the ground with a career-best 142 yards. Senior Parker Hammel (Dubuque) joined him in triple digits with a new career mark of 123 yards.

Sacia finished 16-22 for 196 yards and two TDs. He has finished with triple-digit passing yards in 12-straight games and 14 of his last 15, which dates back to last season.

Brockway had 122 receiving yards on nine catches.

Senior Tony Anstoetter (Farley) and sophomore Cedric Dobbins (Waukee) co-led the defense with 10 total tackles.
