DUBUQUE, Iowa--The No. 14 Wartburg men's basketball team (5-1 overall, 1-0 IIAC) defeated Dubuque (5-1, 0-1), 77-51 in the conference opener Wednesday.
With the win, Wartburg moves its win streak to five.
The Knights used a 10-2 first half run to keep a 34-30 lead at halftime. During the first half, the Wartburg bench netted 12 points.
Wartburg opened the second half on a six-point run, followed by another 12 point run just three minutes later. The Knights led by as many as 27 points in the second half, before securing the victory, 77-51.
Junior Jaran Sabus (Urbandale) led the Wartburg offense with 20 points. Senior Sawyer Herman (Monticello) and junior Josh Gehling (Dyersville) had 14 and 10 points, respectively.
On the defensive effort for the Knights, Sabus and Gehling each tallied nine rebounds. Gehling also had two blocks, and Herman tallied two steals. As a team, the Knights held the Spartans to 27% in the paint and 25.9% from behind the arc.
The Orange and Black return to their home court on Saturday, Dec. 2 against UW-Eau Claire at 3 p.m.
