WAVERLY, Iowa--The No. 14 Wartburg men's basketball team (6-1 overall) defeated UW-Eau Claire (3-3), 66-55 Saturday.
With the win, the Knights move their win streak to six, going undefeated since their season opener loss on Nov. 15 to Division I opponent, Northern Iowa.
The Orange and Black opened the game on a 20-8 run in nine minutes. Six of those points were scored on back-to-back treys from senior Sawyer Herman (Monticello). Herman netted 14 points in the first half.
Wartburg would take a commanding 36-18 lead into halftime. The Knights' largest lead in the first half was by 20 points at 2:08.
UW-Eau Claire outscored Wartburg in the second half, 37-30.
Herman scored a team-high 21 points. Junior Cam Kickbush (Reinbeck) also finished in double digits with 11 points.
On defense, junior Josh Gehling (Dyersville) had a team-best seven rebounds. Seniors Nate Woeste (Atkins) and Clifton Brown (Mims, Fla.) each had six grabs. Kickbush had four steals.
The Orange and Black held the Blugolds to .148 from behind the arc.
Wartburg had the advantages in three-point field goals (9-4), free throws (13-7) and rebounds (42-24).
UW-Eau Claire held the advantage in steals (11-6).
The Knights return to Iowa Conference action on Wednesday, Dec. 6 against Loras at 8 p.m. in Levick Arena.
