WAVERLY, Iowa-- A strong second-half effort helped propel #4/13 Wartburg (6-0 overall, 2-0 IIAC) past Loras (3-4, 0-3), 64-46 Wednesday. The Knights have now won the last four-straight over the Duhawks.
Senior Katie Sommer (Cedar Rapids) led the Orange and Black with 13 points, 10 of which were in the second half, and classmate Miranda Murphy (Alleman) joined her in double digits with 11. Sommer now ranks 11th on the career scoring leader list with 1,043 points to date.
Loras used a big second quarter to take the 32-24 lead at halftime. Wartburg used an 18-8 third quarter to take the lead at 42-40 with :10 left in the third. Wartburg outscored Loras 22-6 in the fourth quarter to build its lead to as many as 18 in the frame.
The Knights scored eight points off of Duhawk turnovers in the fourth.
Sommer, Murphy, senior Morgan Neuendorf (Plainfield), and junior Adreinne Boettger (Cedar Falls) all led the team on the glass with five rebounds.
The Orange and Black owned all three team shooting percentages and forced 20 turnovers, compared to only committing 10.
Wartburg takes to the road Saturday when it faces Beloit at 3 p.m.
