DUBUQUE, Iowa -- The Wartburg College men's basketball team (14-7 overall, 6-6 IIAC) defeated Loras College (14-6, 7-4) on Wednesday 104-85.
The Duhawks took a 3-2 lead in the first two minutes of the game, but the Knights led for the remainder of the contest. In the first period, the Orange and Black shot .686 from the field and took their largest lead of the half just before halftime to make the game 59-42. In the second, Loras was unable to catch the Wartburg, who held a 27-point lead with 8:28 remaining and 19-point advantage at the end of regulation.
The Knights led in total field goal percentage (.576 to .508) and free throw percentage (.655 to .647).
Sophomore Cam Kickbush (Reinbeck) scored a career-high 16 points on the night. Kickbush made six of eight field goals, including three from behind the three-point arc. Senior Nick Webber (Peosta) was the team's leading scorer with 20 points. Sophomore Jaran Sabus (Urbandale) added 13 points and junior Sawyer Herman (Monticello) and senior Jordan Cannon (Bolingbrook, Ill.) each recorded 12.
Junior Nate Woeste (Atkins) led the team in rebounds with six. Senior Lenart Kalan (
Skofja Loka, Slovenia) was the team leader in assists (4) and steals (3).
Wartburg will conclude their week of road games at Central College on Saturday at 4 p.m.
